Police were on the scene following an incident on the C3647 at Clifton Dykes on the junction with the Melkinthorpe road that blocked the road after a HGV with a large excavator came off the road into soft ground and got stuck blocking both roads.
Traffic was blocked in all directions while efforts got underway clear the blockage.
A spokesperson for the company said “Today's job to a quarry in shap was made so hard because Network Rail had involvement with job as this was a wide and heavy load.”
“They approved this route into shap as a weight restriction had be put into force which stopped us crossing the bridge coming from J39 of the M6 into shap.”
“We as drivers can only follow instructions given to us by Movement orders put into place by relevant authorities. This is the only route in at the moment so we as company will not be doing this again . The road was slippy today which caused the vehicle to slide into the verge as it turned.”
“We'd like to thank the local farmer , Waitings construction and a young chap from Metcalfe plant hire and civil engineering for their help in resolving the issues we had today.”
“We'd also like to apologise to members of the public that had their day disrupted by this incident”.
