Rheged Hosting Forty Farms Fair and Free Talks on Saturday

This Saturday (5th July) Rheged is hosting the return of the popular Forty Farms Fair with Kendal Farmers Market, offering a vibrant day out with local produce, artisan stalls, and a line-up of free talks — all with free entry from 10am to 3pm.

The market will feature over 40 stalls packed with seasonal food, handmade gifts, and crafts, giving visitors the chance to meet the producers behind them — many of whom are rooted in the Cumbrian farming community.

A full programme of free talks will run throughout the day, covering everything from sourdough baking and outdoor cooking, to gardening and regenerative fashion.

Free Talks Schedule:

11am – Lovingly Artisan: The Truth is in the Grain
Award-winning baker Aidan Monks from Lovingly Artisan shares his passion for real bread. Based near Kendal, the bakery is known for using natural ingredients and heritage grains. Aidan will also talk about their latest project — growing grain in Penrith with Eden Yard.

12pm – Outdoor Cooking with Westmorland Kitchen’s Chefs
Watch a live outdoor cooking demo as chefs prepare tender lamb with a dry rub and marinated chicken, served with fresh summer salads. Learn tips on preparation, timing, and presentation, and enjoy free tasters. A QR code will be available to access the recipes online.

1pm – Beetham Nurseries: Perennial Perfection – Choosing the Right Plants for Cumbrian Gardens
Marguerite from Beetham Nurseries will introduce perennials ideal for the local climate, drawing on her experience running weekly gardening workshops. The session ends with a Q&A for your gardening questions.
