Police Search Plane used over Tebay

National Police air services have assisted police in a search this evening around the Tebay Services area.


Police closed the M6 between junction 37 and 39 for a period leading to lengthy tailbacks on the M6 in both directions as a heavy police presence around the services conducted a search with the air support from the VulcanAir P.86R Victor that was flown from Leeds to the Cumbrian fells to assist in the police search.


The £2.5 million pound National Police air service fixed wing aircraft Provide a unique aerial view to police on the ground when conducting searches along with extended flight time available compared to helicopters.


The search aircraft returned to its Leeds base after conducting a large numerical of search loops over the area at approximately 8:45pm this evening.


Cumbria Police have yet to give any statement on the incident this evening that resulted in the closure of the M6 and service area for a time.
