Police were called to a one-vehicle collision at the Stainburn bypass, near Workington, just after midnight in the early hours of this morning ( April 20 ).
The collision involved a red Volkswagen Golf a man in his 40’s in the Volkswagen Golf was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations were launched and the A66 at Stainburn was closed in both directions while police investigations took place.
The road was closed for approximately eight hours but National Highways have now reopened the A66 in both directions.
