Eden Neighbourhood Police officers, attended a report of shoplifting in Penrith on Wednesday afternoon at Home Bargains on Ullswater Road.
The alarm was raised by the store via the over the Penrith Shopwatch radio system to inform police that a male had been into the store and stolen various items.
Officers located the male walking near Penrith train station and arrested him with the stolen items recovered including 28 steaks, 1 bottle of vodka, 2 bottles of whisky and 6 bags of bold washing tablets stolen from the Home Bargains store with an approximate value of £500 worth recovered.
The use of the shop watch system allowed police to have a male arrested in a matter of minutes after the incident was reported.
Penrith has seen an increase in shoplifting with 157 cases logged by police in the last 12 months in Penrith 12 of those in February this year as the most recent available figures.
