The Paddington Bear statue was unveiled in Penrith in October as one of 20 installed across the country ahead of a the premier last November of the new Paddington in Peru field.
The statue was originally intended to remain in Penrith or a year, But Penrith Business Improvement District has announced that Paddington will stay in Penrith another year.
The statue has become a local landmark still drawing in people to sit on the bench Little Dockray with him.
This statue in Penrith was jointly funded project by Penrith BID, Penrith Town Council and Westmorland and Furness Council. Although the exact cost of Padding in Penrith has not been disclosed other locations the Paddington statues have been on display have confirmed costs of £15,000 - £20,000.
Earlier this year a London man was arrested and convicted for attacking the Penrith Paddington statue he appeared before Carlisle Magistrates Court in July after being charged with criminal damage to Penrith’s Paddington Bear statue in December 2024.
