Penrith to Transform Into Jurassic Town on Saturday for Free Dinosaur Day

Penrith will be stepping back millions of years on Saturday as it becomes Jurassic Town for Dinosaur Day, a free event packed with prehistoric fun for the whole family.

Taking place on Saturday (23rd August) from 10am to 4pm, the town will be brought to life with roaring dinosaurs, interactive activities and live shows throughout the day.

Visitors will be able to meet life-sized dinosaurs, including a raptor, a Dilophosaurus and a Parasaurolophus. Families can also enjoy ranger training, the giant dino eggDr Bones Hatchery, and encounters with roaming baby dinosaurs.

There will be plenty of free activities for children, including face painting. Young explorers can also take part in a special dinosaur trail, searching for prehistoric creatures hidden around the town.

The main hub of activity will be in Great Dockray, with dinosaurs roaming across the wider town centre between 11am and 4pm. The day’s programme is packed with entertainment, from thrilling dinosaur shows to hands-on hatchery experiences.

Event timetable highlights include:

  • 10:20 – Hatchery
  • 11:00 – Raptor Show
  • 12:00 – T-Rex Show
  • 12:30 – Ranger Training with live raptor
  • 13:40 – T-Rex Show
  • 14:00 – Raptor Show
  • 15:00 – Final T-Rex Show

The event is part of Penrith’s Summer Saturdays programme, which has been running every weekend since early July. Organised by Penrith BID, the series has already seen the town host a street food festival, roller disco, stunt bike displays, and two weekends of live music organised by Penrith Town Council. In total, more than £30,000 of free entertainment has been delivered for residents and visitors by Penrith BiD this summer.
