A man has been jailed today for 8 years after an incident in Penrith in November last year.
Samuel Hughes, 46, previously of Brentfield Way, Penrith, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (29 May) after pleading guilty to two counts of wounding with intent to cause GBH and one count of attempted wounding.
The sentence follows an incident in the early hours of 27 November 2025 where officers were called to an address on Brentfield Way, Penrith with a report of an injured person at the property.
Hughes had broken into neighbour's property armed with a knife in the early hours of the morning and attacked the occupants - a family – which left two men with knife wound injuries.
Both sustained injuries to the hands and one also in the head and neck, as they attempted to defend themselves from Hughes.
Detective Constable Ross Green, Eden CID, said: "This was a violent assault on people in their own home late at night.
"This level of unprovoked violence is unacceptable and we are pleased that Hughes has received substantial jail time as a result of his actions.
"Convictions such as this demonstrate that Cumbria Police will do everything we can to make sure those who engage in acts of violence are brought to justice.
