It’s that time of year again, Christmas is fast approaching and today (Sunday 16th November) Penrith Lions have installed their annual Christmas Tree hand picked by the Penrith Lions from a plantation in Lazonby.
The tree was delivered by tractor fresh from the plantation to its new home for Christmas in Penrith in front of the Cornmarket Bandstand.
The volunteers from the Penrith Lions greeted the tree as it arrived this morning to be put in place to the sound of St Andrews Church bells as the volunteers manoeuvred the tree to line up with the small hole in the pavement in what appeared to be a well rehearsed procedure.
After a bit of adjustment to the trunk to ensure it fitted the hole in the pavement the members of the Penrith Lions with the assistance of a Penrith Town Council officer and with a few bits of pulling and pushing the tree slipped effortlessly from the trailer and into its upright position in the pavement on Cornmarket on Sunday Morning ready for decorating with lights ahead of the annual town light switch on event next Saturday the 22nd of November.
