Penrith Lions Gearing Up to Roar into the Festive Season

It’s that time of year again — the clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in, and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun! The Penrith Lions are once again donning their festive hats and spreading Christmas cheer across the town with their much-loved community Christmas traditions.

First up, the ever-popular Penrith Lions Christmas Card Post is back for Christmas 2025 and it’s still just 50p per card! The Lions’ volunteer “posties” will be out and about delivering festive messages between 24th November and 12th December, ensuring your Christmas wishes reach friends and family across Penrith.

Cards can be dropped off along with payment at any of the five town centre collection points:

Styleline Hair and Beauty

Lakeland Embroidery

Crafty Baker

Cowper’s Chemist

Penrith Restore

Just make sure each card is clearly labelled with the name, house number, and full address — the Lions’ elves can’t work miracles without the details!

But that’s not all the Lions have in store this year. As well as playing postman, they’re helping Santa himself make a special visit to Penrith — with a few changes to keep things merry and bright.

With more homes in town (and a few too many tight parking spots for reindeer), Santa’s giving the sleigh a well-earned rest ahead of his big Christmas Eve journey. Instead, families are invited to meet Santa and his elves in Cornmarket near the bandstand on Saturday 6th December between 11am and 2pm. The “Come and Meet Santa” event is free to attend, with sweet treats for children and plenty of festive fun.

A spokesperson for Penrith Lions said: “We know many will miss the sleigh route, but with more homes, tricky parking, and fewer volunteers, this change helps us keep things safe — and still full of Christmas spirit.”

And speaking of Cornmarket, the Lions will be making a very special delivery this Sunday when volunteers from the Penrith Lions will once again expertly manoeuvre a Christmas tree into its pride of place in front of the bandstand and decorate it with lights ready for the Penrith BiD Christmas Light Switch-On and Sparkle Event on the 22nd of November that this year will include the Winter Droving parade by Eden arts as part of the Christmas sparkle event.

So, whether it’s posting your Christmas cards, meeting Santa, or admiring the town tree, the Penrith Lions are once again at the heart of the season — bringing festive cheer, community spirit, and a touch of Christmas magic to Penrith.
