Penrith Female Arrested as Police Seized XL bully Dog at Property

Cumbria Police officers on Monday (26th February), seized a dog under section one of the Dangerous Dog Act from a property in Penrith.

A 22 year old female was also arrested at the property in relation to offences under the Dangerous Dog Act.


From 31st December 2023 the dog known as the XL bully has been designated as a prohibited type and is added to the list of dogs to which section one of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 applies.


Making it an offence to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon, allow to stray or be in a public place without a lead and muzzle with an XL bully or any other prohibited day listed by the Dangerous Dogs Act.


Owners of an XL bully must now have an exemption certificate which can be applied for online and the dogs must be neutered and microchipped.
