Penrith Cycling Business Named as one of UK’s Green Growth 100 and in Running for National Award

The Green Growth 100 includes 100 forward-thinking UK small businesses that are leading the way in sustainability-led growth. The awards was launched by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT, to celebrate 100 UK businesses leading the way in sustainability and growth.

One of the chosen businesses is Arragon's Cycles, the family-run cycle retailer and service centre in Penrith, who also offer cycle hire as a low-carbon alternative to car travel across the Eden Valley and Northern Lakes.

Michelle Ovens CBE, CEO and Founder of Small Business Britain, said: “The Green Growth 100 celebrates the small businesses that are showing sustainability and growth go hand in hand. These businesses are not only reducing their environmental impact, but also strengthening their operations, engaging customers, and building more resilient business models. Arragon's Cycles is a brilliant example of how sustainability can fuel long-term success.”

This Green Growth 100 follows the work of the Willow Review, an independent, Government-backed review into the financial benefits of sustainability, which was co-chaired by Small Business Britain with BT sitting as a Steering Board member. The Willow Review published its landmark recommendations last summer, outlining a roadmap to unlock the vast financial opportunities of sustainability for Britain’s 5.6 million small businesses. profitability.

Sustainability has long been embedded in Arragon’s Cycles business, from extensive recycling of cardboard, plastics, tyres and inner tubes, to partnerships with local organisations that reuse waste materials. The business has also invested in energy efficiency, including LED lighting, on-site renewable energy and more efficient heating, as well as choosing electric bikes over vans for local journeys where possible.

Reducing waste disposal, reusing materials and improving energy efficiency have lowered operating costs for the business and increased resilience, while investment in renewable energy is generating ongoing savings. Together, these measures support a more efficient, cost-effective business model built for long-term sustainability that’s has seen Arragon’s become one of the top 100 forward-thinking UK small businesses

Chris Sims, Chief Commercial Officer, UK Business, at BT, added: “The businesses in the Green Growth 100 are setting the benchmark for how sustainability can unlock innovation and commercial opportunity. It’s inspiring to see how small businesses across the UK are turning greener practices into real business growth. We’re proud to support this initiative and congratulate Arragon's Cycles on being recognised.”

As a business featured on the Green Growth 100 Arragon's Cycles will also be in the running for the Green Growth Awards – hosted by BT on 12 March 2026 – which will see two standout businesses from the line-up awarded a £5,000 grant to help them to scale their sustainability ambitions and continue driving positive change.

Well done and Good luck on the 12th March to Arragon's Cycles from the Penrith.Town team!
