Chippys once a common sight on British high street are facing a difficult time with cost increases and the battle to keep prices down and quality high many have been forced to close across the UK over the last year. For those that are still frying up the nation’s favourite dish the only thing separating them is the good quality ingredients, prices and service they provide customers.
So which is the best you may ask well The National Fish and Chip Awards 2024 has whittled it down to 40 across the UK and Penrith is home to Cumbria’s only shortlisted chippy in the running for winning the title of chippy of the year.
Angel Lane Chippie in Penrith has been shortlisted as one of 40 in the running to earn the title of Fish and Chip Takeaway of the year.
This year’s nomination process saw fish and chip businesses from across the UK entering the awards, with the sole aim of scooping the coveted crown to be named Britain’s best.
The judging panel made up of the industry’s top ‘a-fish-onados’ put hopeful entrants through an extensive judging process, testing them against industry best practices on environmental issues, product knowledge and their responsibilities as an employer, and more.
