Penrith has once again this summer been transformed into a sea of floral colour through the summer with the array of hanging baskets and planters throughout the town centre funded by Penrith BiD and grant funding from Penrith Town Council with some of the more permanent planters supported through sponsorship from local businesses to help bring the seasonal burst of colour into the town.
2024 has seen an increase in the number of freestanding pyramid planters and railing planters through the town along with an Increased number of hanging baskets 201 hanging basket in total were ordered and sold to Penrith business for £65 plus vat to hang outside business around the town with the exception of four hanging baskets that are hanging on display outside Whitehaven McDonalds.
No sooner were the baskets and planters out on display in 2023 the work of planning and ordering plants was underway for this years displays around the town.
Despite the huge amount of work and the volume of plants and colours on display in the town no entry into the annual Cumbria in Bloom competition has been made for the town centre and its floral displays.
Each year the empty hanging baskets, railing and pyramid planters are planted up in early spring in greenhouses on the edge of Penrith where they are watered and looked after until late May when the Pot Place transport the planters and hanging baskets from Mile Lane Nurseries into the town centre and place them tong the railings paths and on lamp posts and outside the town’s business to bring on the sea of colour.

There are plans to consider entering Cumbria in Bloom that the Penrith has not entered since 2022.
