Drivers are once again facing long delays around Penrith with Junction 40 with traffic currently queuing beyond J41 along the M6 Southbound carriageways.
Traffic is also queuing along the A66 on approach to junction 40 and on the A6 and A66 around Kemplay Roundabout.
Current delays are around 15-20 minutes.
One driver told us ‘Jct 40 is absolutely rammed. Kemplay to jct 40 isn't moving. Kemplay isn't moving either.......’
Another said ‘they need to turn these lights off and let the roundabout be used as a roundabout properly’
National Highways are continuing to investigate issues with the timings of lights on Kemplay Roundabout with engineers again on site on Monday working on the lighting control system.
The 'issue' with the traffic lights on Kemplay Bank roundabout has led to the lights 'changing too soon' back to red, leading to substantial disruption to traffic in and around Penrith.
The traffic lights are operating, but are changing too soon, meaning fewer vehicles are moving through before they turn red leading to tailbacks on the A66, M6 and A6.
National Highways has said that it now working to find a solution to the issue 'as a matter of urgency'.
A spokesperson National Highways said “As we enter the weekend, we appreciate this may cause additional disruption to journeys and apologise for any inconvenience”.
"Please bear with us, fixing the lights as soon as possible is our top priority”.
what do you think is it time to turn the lights off?
