New year, new home for Penrith families as affordable development completes sales

Six families have spent the first month of the year settling into new homes after the final affordable properties at the Carleton Meadows development in Penrith were handed over to Westmorland and Furness Council to be let as social housing tenancies.

Carleton Meadows is a mixed tenure housing development that includes 81 affordable properties sold to Westmorland and Furness Council, who have worked with developer Persimmon Homes, to increase their social housing stock in the Eden locality.

Nigel Clarke from the Council and Jonny Renwick from Persimmon were joined by Kathryn Dean at Knights, who completed the conveyancing over the last six years, to celebrate the final sales of properties (pictured).

Councillor Judith Derbyshire, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said: “This milestone marks the successful completion of a project that has provided much-needed affordable homes for local families. It was wonderful to see the community thriving over the festive period and into 2025. Thanks to collaborative working with partners Persimmon Homes and Knights, we’ve been able to offer much needed social housing to our communities.”

Ani Abbott, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes Lancashire, added: “It has been great to work with both Westmorland & Furness Council and Knights to help deliver much-needed housing for local people in Penrith. I hope all the families are settled and enjoying their new homes.

Kathryn Dean, Senior Associate at Knights, said: “It’s been great to be part of such a fabulous development and to see the site flourish over the last few years.Working with the teams at Westmorland & Furness Council and Persimmon Homes Limited has been an absolute pleasure and it feels like the end of an era seeing the development through to the end.
