New Garfield movie screened to an empty cinema on Sunday

The world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), is back in a brand-new family film, having a wild outdoor adventure on the silver screen this weekend at the Alhambra cinema in Penrith.

After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.

The film has already been generating buzz with a strong international debut, earning £28million globally since premiering earlier this month and yet to premiere in the USA.

Despite the strong debut internationally in Penrith Garfield has failed to capture the global buzz so far, The Alhambra cinema held two screenings of the movie on Sunday to completely empty auditorium. The cinema said it has had “quite a few empty screenings over the past weeks.”

Last year Owners of Penrith’s Alhambra Cinema issued an urgent plea for the community to support the Penrith business as the Cinema faces an uncertain future a decade after its was last at risk of closing its doors for good.
