New Director Appointed to Oversee Westmorland and Furness Council Finances

Westmorland and Furness Council has announced the appointed a new director to its leadership team. David Hodgkinson will take on the role as the councils new Director of Resources (s151 Officer) for the authority.

Mr Hodgkinson brings with him extensive experience in both the public and private sectors and has held director positions with both Islington and Westminster City Councils in London. He will take up his role in June.

The position in the council is a key and statutory leadership role with responsibility as the principal advisor on all financial services, leading strategic planning, procurement, commissioning, asset management and fleet service operations.

Sam Plum, Chief Executive of Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “We are delighted that after a highly competitive recruitment process we have secured a candidate of David’s calibre to take on this critical role. His knowledge and experience will be key for us as we continue to develop as an ambitious, inclusive and innovative council.

Cllr Andrew Jarvis, Deputy Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “I am confident that we have chosen a candidate with the skills and abilities to step into this central role. 

“Maintaining a healthy financial position is essential if we are to achieve all our ambitions as a council. I look forward to working with David and helping the team deliver on the good start we have made in our first two years.”
