Network Rail Update on Bridge Demolition and Safety After People Enter Exclusion Zone

Network Rails Head of Capital Delivery, Buildings and Civils at North West and Central Patrick Vallely gave an update on the demolition work underway on Clifton Railway Bridge. He said “Construction has been going really well through last night into the early hours of this morning”.

“I must nod towards the residents and say I understand that there's a lot of noise.”

“We haven't quite yet finished what we need to do, we are heading in that direction and by probably later on this evening we will have done the majority of the demolition work”.

“It's been long, it's been complex, but we are getting towards the end of the tunnel of that work”.

“I understand the delays we've caused on the motorway and again I'm really grateful to the travelling public and we've been working hard through this weekend, last night and into this morning and we're on schedule to hand back the motorway at five o'clock tomorrow morning”.

Mr Vallely then addressed safety following some incidents of members of the public entering safety exclusion areas getting close to the demolition site, he said “We take safety really, really seriously”.

“Last night we had a couple of incidents where members of the public were probably trying to get too close to the work We wouldn't want that because you know what, it's really important that we keep a safe distance. We certainly have to respect the exclusion zones that we've set up”.
