As part of National Volunteers’ Week 2024 Cumbria Police are celebrating the amazing contribution made by Police Support Volunteers (PSVs), Special Constables (volunteer police officers) and cadets and cadet leaders, who all give up their time to help the force keep Cumbria safe.
A team of 48 Special Constables have volunteered over 10,500 hours over the past year* to assist both response and rural officers, and police many of the county’s major operations. Special Constables also made 48 arrests during their volunteered working hours.
Cumbria Police work closely with young people across the county and have capacity for 100 cadets across the forces five units. The cadets are supported by 42 volunteer cadet leaders.
The force is also supported by 20 PSVs in roles such as Child Centred Policing and MOSOVO, (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders) and 39 rural volunteers.
Inspector Siraaz Patel, Citizens in Policing Department, said: “All of our volunteers play a vital role within Cumbria Constabulary and are essential to delivering and improving our service to our communities.
“National volunteers week provides us with a great opportunity to showcase their work, which often goes unseen, and to thank them for their contribution.
“Time and time again I am impressed and inspired by the dedication of our volunteers who give up their own time to support their communities.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our volunteers in every department for the work you do – it really does make a difference.”
