National Apprenticeship Week 2026: How One Local Apprentice has helped deliver a £60Million Project

National Apprenticeship Week 2026 has arrived, bringing together employers, training providers, and learners to celebrate apprenticeships and skills. It's also an opportunity to inspire those who don't yet know about apprenticeships and what they can offer.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2026 Penrith.Town news are taking a look at some of the apprenticeship opportunities with companies locally and finding out about some of the varied apprenticeship locally.

As part of the work on the Clifton Bridge Replacement Project, one of the apprentices of Skanska the international company that delivered the £60million pound Westcoast main line bridge replacement across the M6, Paulina Dolder (Trainee Environmental Advisor), has had a hands‑on role in helping deliver this major piece of infrastructure for the community.

Her apprenticeship involves: Monitoring environmental and sustainability performance on the site at Clifton. Supporting inspections and advising the team on compliance, Helping manage environmental risks. Working with local stakeholders and driving initiatives to cut carbon and enhance biodiversity around the project

Paulina's experience reflects the opportunities available to young people starting a career in construction and sustainability and showcases how apprentices are directly contributing to local developments in and around Penrith.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Skanska are encouraging people to explore their 2026 apprenticeship opportunities.

Applications open on 11 February, and candidates can apply via Asians as website.
The company is also hosting an online Apprenticeship Webinar, where prospective applicants can hear from current apprentices and ask questions about career pathways.
