More than twenty councillors across Westmorland and Furness Council and local town councils have been the subject of Code of Conduct complaints over the last 12 months, with around half still under investigation.
Figures released by Westmorland and Furness Council show that nine complaints have been made against Westmorland and Furness councillors since January 2025. Of those, the council decided that two did not warrant further action, while the remaining complaints are still awaiting an outcome.
Complaints against serving Westmorland and Furness Councillors still under investigation include Four of the complaints submitted by other councillors, One by a members of the public and Three by Westmorland and Furness council staff against councillors all made last August.
A separate complaint, made in October, against a town councillor is also still under active investigation by the council’s monitoring office.
The council figures do not include any new Code of Conduct complaints submitted since the start of the new year.
Investigations are handled by the council’s monitoring officer, with outcomes yet to be determined in the majority of cases that could be put before a conduct panel made up of Westmorland and Furness councillors.
