Man charged after running from police following vehicle stop on M6 at Penrith

A man has been charged after officers stopped his vehicle travelling Southbound on the M6 near Penrith on Friday afternoon (5th September).


When officers stopped the vehicle on the M6 the driver exited the vehicle and ran off from the scene, despite his attempts to escape officers quickly detained him and searched the vehicle.

On search the vehicle officers located a large quantity of cash and cannabis.

Santiliano Sakaj, aged 29, of Kirby Road, Leicester, has now been charged by detectives with possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and a money laundering offence.

Sakaj is due to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on 10th October 2025.

The seizure and investigation forms part of forms part of Cumbria Police ongoing Operation Alliance to protect the county against serious and organised crime.
