Man Arrested after Two Shoplifting incidents in Penrith and a short police Chase

A man was arrested in Penrith on Tuesday afternoon (12th August) for two shopliftings offences after Members of the Eden Neighbourhood Police team where alerted to the incidents using the Penrith Shop watch scheme that allowed the retailers to report the theft instantly rather than use the 999 system enabling officers in the town centre to start the investigation immediately.

Officers performed quick enquiries utilising CCTV and traced the man to Penrith town centre.

The real-time cctv was used to guid PC ADAMS towards the man walking up Castlegate at 16:57 on Tuesday afternoon, on spotting PC Adams heading down towards him the man decided to turn run but wasn’t fast enough to escape the long arm of the Eden Neighbourhood police team.

The man was arrested after running into a courtyard of flats on Castlegate and attempting to jump over railings and wall as PC Adams caught up with him, the man was taken into custody where he was charged with two counts of shopliftings at local business in Penrith.
