National Highways have announced the M6 Northbound will now be closed on both Sunday Night and Monday night between junction 39 at Shap and junction 40 at Penrith as part of its work on the refurbishment of Lowther Bridge near Clifton.

A spokesperson for National Highways said “We have made good progress recently. We're ready to move to the next phase of work - bridge repairs in lanes two and three.”

“To do this, we’ll adjust our roadworks layout. For safety reasons, we’ll need these overnight (8pm to 6am) closures”.

The first of a series of closures will take place this Sunday and now National Highways has confirmed due to the forecast bad weather also Monday night.

Sunday 21nd September and Monday 22nd September - M6 northbound junction 39 to 40 (to complete work on hard shoulder and lane one).

Closures will also take place on Saturday 27th September – M6 northbound junction 39 to 40 and Sunday 28th September – M6 southbound junction 40 to 39

There'll be a clearly signed diversion by the A6 during the closures along with signs reminding drivers of speed limits along the A6.
