M6 Closed Overnight from 10pm to Allow Large Jacks to be Installed ready to lift Clifton Railway Bridge

National Highways will again close the M6 tonight between junction 39 Shap and Junction 40 Penrith at the request of Network Rail to enable them to complete preparatory works in advance of the replacement of M6 Clifton Railway Bridge in early January. The overnight closure will allow the installation of jacks to lift the existing 60 year old bridge from its foundations during the removal in January.

The M6 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight tonight Tuesday 16th December, 22:00 - 06:00

Traffic will be diverted via the A6.

National Highway have said “Apologies for the short notice and thank you for your ongoing patience.”
