A man has been arrested following a high-speed police pursuit through residential streets in Penrith on Saturday evening.
Cumbria Police officers from the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team were searching for a grey Audi A4 in connection with a burglary and the theft of diesel from a site in Penrith. The vehicle was spotted at 6:08pm (Saturday, 5th July) by officers on Wordsworth Street.
When the driver noticed the marked police vehicle, he accelerated away in an attempt to evade officers.
A high speed pursuit followed through the residential streets in Penrith, with the Audi turning from Wordsworth Street onto Beacon Street, crossing over Lowther Street, continuing along Beacon Street and then down Arthur Street. The driver eventually came to a stop at the junction with Meeting House Lane.
Officers arrested the man at the scene on suspicion of theft, burglary, and going equipped to steal. The vehicle was searched and seized and uplifted by police for being used in crime.
The man remains in custody as investigations continue.
