High Court Reject A66 Legal Challenge

The legal challenge to the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine upgrade has been rejected at the High Court today.

The legal challenge by Transport Action Network received judgment delivered by Mr Justice Mould in court three in the high court at lunchtime today (Friday 25th October)

In a ruling, the Mr Justice Mould said the bid "does not raise an arguable basis" to claim the secretary of state was wrong to grant the order.

Mr Justice Mould added the pervious transport secretary Mark Harper, "found a compelling need for the development to take place" and "considered whether there were any alternatives which might serve to achieve that compelling need".

The ruling means that one of the two risks to the future of the A66 upgrade has been removed but the projects future still hangs in the balance with the current government spending review.
