HGV crashes into M6 central reservation south of Penrith

Emergency services are currently dealing with a HGV that has crashed into the central reservation of the M6 south of J40.

Traffic is currently moving through the roadworks freely with police directing traffic into one lane.

The HGV has crossed into the area of the M6 closed off for survey works on the Lowther Bridge and crashed into the central reservation barrier.

This is the second HGV accident on the section of the M6 around J40 this morning following a temporary closure for the recovery of a HGV that had left the motorway and crashed into the grass verge between J40 and J41 northbound at approximately 5am.

Traffic heading along the M6 is advised to slow dow due to heavy surface water south of Penrith as the forcast heavy rain makes it was north through the morning.
