North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust are trialling sharing live waiting times with the hope that this information helps set people’s expectations when are waiting to be seen.
You can now see live waiting times for A&E departments in Carlisle and Whitehaven and Urgent Treatment Centres in Penrith and Keswick.
The health trust hope it will also raise awareness of their urgent treatment centres which have significantly shorter waiting times than A&E departments, and are the best places to go if you need medical attention but it is not life-threatening.
The wait times are now live on the NCIC trust website, information available includes how many people are currently in the department, the average waiting time to see a doctor/nurse after initial assessment and how many people have arrived in the last hour.
The trust has said that no matter how busy it’s A&E departments are, the most seriously ill and injured patients will always be seen first and as quickly as possible. Regardless of waiting times.
