Cumbria Green Party has selected Dr Mark Borthwick as its candidate for Mayor of the Cumbria Combined Authority in the May 2027 election.
As an Ulverston native, Mark Borthwick is an environment policy researcher who has spent the past decade working professionally on food and farming campaigns. His campaign will focus on the development of Cumbria’s green economy, including resilient local jobs, clean water, affordable housing, reliable public transport, and access to land.
Dr Borthwick said:
“Our first mayor should be a champion for the people of Cumbria, making sure every decision and every pound works for the communities it’s meant to serve.
“Cumbria has a real chance to do things differently. Our first mayor can bring fresh thinking that is rooted in green economics. That means lower bills, homes local families can afford, buses you can rely on, and an economy that keeps wealth in our communities.
“I want to work alongside our councils, and with everyone who loves this county, to make that happen. This is our moment to bring positive change, together”.
