Frying Up Success as Three Penrith Businesses Shortlisted in National Awards

A Penrith business is frying high after being shortlisted in the inaugural English Fish & Chip Awards, with recognition across several regional and national categories for Angel Lane Chippie, Sandgate Chippie, and The Chippie Van — all shortlisted, marking a strong showing for the local businesses in the first year of the awards.

Launched by the organisers behind the Scottish Fish & Chip Awards, the new national awards aim to celebrate excellence, tradition, and innovation across England’s fish and chip industry.

Both Angel Lane Chippie and Sandgate Chippie have been shortlisted in the Best Fish & Chips in the North West category, putting them among the top chippies in the region.

The Chippie Van has been shortlisted in the national Best Fish Fryer of the Year category, recognising skill, consistency, and quality in traditional fish frying.

In addition, Sandgate Chippie has also been shortlisted in the Most Sustainable Fish & Chip Shop category, highlighting its approach to responsible sourcing and environmental awareness.

The English Fish & Chip Awards bring together businesses from across the country to celebrate the best in the industry, with categories covering frying skill, sustainability, heritage, and customer experience.

Winners will be announced at a Gala Final in Manchester on Monday 22nd June.

Good Luck to Dan and the Angel Lane Chippie, Sandgate Chippie, and The Chippie Van team.
