Drivers are facing long delays on the M6 and A66 around Penrith with three lanes of stationary traffic on the M6 between Junction 41 and Junction 40 due to the volume of traffic waiting to exit onto J40 at Penrith.
Traffic is also queuing on the A66 approached to J40 with traffic queuing back to Kemplay heading westbound.
Current tailbacks on the M6 have drivers facing delays of upto 40 minutes between junction 41 and J40.
The M6 south of J40 is moving freely as is the M6 Northbound.
