This Saturday (4th April) Rheged is hosting the return of the popular Forty Farms Fair with Kendal Farmers Market, offering a vibrant day out with local produce, artisan stalls, and a line-up of free talks — all with free entry from 10am to 3pm.
The market will feature 30 stalls packed with seasonal food, handmade gifts, and crafts, giving visitors the chance to meet the producers behind them — many of whom are rooted in the Cumbrian farming community.
A full programme of free talks will run throughout the day, covering everything from sourdough baking and outdoor cooking, to gardening and regenerative fashion.
Free Talks Schedule:
11am – The Cocoabean Company; From Kitchen Aga to Westmorland Partner
Join Claire Beck & Emma Turley as they share how Claire made her hobby of making chocolates in her own home into a thriving business based at Twynholm, Dumfries & Galloway. Producing luxury chocolates and confectionery; all hand crafted using traditional methods, to the highest standards with no compromise on the quality of ingredients, using only the finest chocolate available.
12pm – “Not Another Shepherd” with Garry Miller of Miller Farming, Penruddock, Penrith
It all started with sheep and a dog. Garry went from being a full time self-employed plumber to a full time farmer, from 25 acres and a few sheep to a diverse and profitable farm business.
1pm – Cider Making in Cumbria
Meet “Cider Man” John Hibbert from Perry and Cider at Broughton Bank, north of Cartmel in southern Cumbria where he plants, picks and presses apples and pears to make cider and perry. John will explain each process from crushing and juicing to fermentation and explain why his cider and perry is so special.
Whether you're interested in food, gardening, sustainability or crafts, the Rheged Farmers Market offers a relaxed and inspiring day out rooted in the best of Cumbria.
