Flooding and Surface Water causing Road Closures and Delays around Penrith

Cumbria is currently experiencing problems with surface water flooding across many roads this morning following overnight heavy rain.

Among the main issues are:

- A closure on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 41 and 42

Other areas affected as include: Carleton village, near Penrith; the A66 Cockermouth bypass; the A6 at Plumpton.

Local roads in and around Penrith also have localised flooding and heavy surface water.

Traffic is queuing along the M6 between Junction 40 and J39 at Shap due to the closure between 41 and 42 leading to further delays on local roads with the A6 through eamont bridge quieting back to Clifton currently.

Do not drive through flood water if coming across flooding – take an alternative route.
