Flat Conversion Proposed for Former Hair Salon on Angel Lane

Plans have been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council to convert a vacant first-floor unit on Angel Lane, previously used as a hair and beauty salon, into a residential flat.

No external alterations are proposed as part of the scheme. The building is located within the town’s conservation area and sits above a ground-floor flat that was created from a former retail storage area. The ground floor, which fronts onto Angel Lane, is currently occupied by “The Herbalist Company”, a business selling CBD products and vapes.

Access to the proposed flat would be via a shared door from Angel Lane, leading into a rear courtyard.

In the planning statement to the council Yam Architects said: “The proposals have been designed to ensure that the character and significance of the building, and its contribution to the wider townscape, are fully preserved. The works involve no alterations to the external appearance of the building.”

The application is part of a wider trend in the town, where plans have been approved to convert unused commercial spaces into residential accommodation, to repurpose the growing number of vacant commercial properties in the town centre.
