Events marking the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day today (15th August) have taken place with the VJ Day flag flying outside Penrith Town hall.
The gathering outside the town hall this morning paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of those who served in the Far East during the Second World War and recognises the vital contributions of today’s Armed Forces community.
Flag are flying from the town hall buildings across Westmorland and Furness today as a mark of respect for veterans, serving personnel and their families.
Attending the Penrith flag raising event on the steps of Penrith Town hall was the deputy town mayor Cllr B Jayson, Westmorland and Furness Vice Chair Cllr M Rudhall and Cllr M Eyles the Westmorland and Furness Council armed forces champion along with members of the emergency services and veterans.
