Ewe Wouldn’t Believe It! Sheep and Lambs Rescued from Two-Storey Roof

Not an average Monday for Penrith fire crew today who among today’s call-outs was an unusual rescue, when a sheep and three lambs found themselves stranded on the roof of a two-storey building.

The team at Penrith Fire Station received the unexpected call and were unsure what to expect as they headed to the scene.

“This animal rescue was a first for us,” said a spokesperson from the station. “En route, we weren’t quite sure what we’d find when we arrived.”

Upon arrival, crews were met with the surreal sight of one adult sheep and three lambs precariously positioned on the tiled roof. With assistance from a local farmer, firefighters used ladders and reach poles to safely guide the animals down to the ground.

Thankfully, all four were unharmed and were returned to the field from which they had apparently wandered.

The rooftop rescue marked the third callout of the day for the Penrith crew. Earlier, they had responded to a report of a suspected building fire, which turned out to be a false alarm with good intent. Later, they provided standby cover in the Carlisle area while city crews attended another incident.

“It’s certainly not every day we’re called to rescue sheep from a roof,” the fire station added. “But we’re glad we could help get them back on solid ground.”
