The operators of the Flusco landfill site near Penrith have been served with a waste suspension notice by the Environment Agency as an official order halting waste activities at the site including accepting new waste.
It requires immediate action to remediate risks before operations can resume.
The Environment Agency had previously issued a section 36 notice on the site and Westmorland and Furness Council had placed an enforcement notice on the site that expired on the 19th December as the environment agency issued the Section 37 Notice.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: "On Friday the 19 December 2025 we issued a Suspension Notice to Seletia, the operators of Flusco Landfill near Penrith. This prevents Seletia from accepting waste at the site.
“We understand the local community’s concerns. We will continue to monitor the site, including groundwater and odour impacts, and take appropriate action if we find any risks to the environment.”
The order preventing waste been accepted at the landfill site does not impact on the council recycling and waste bring site at Flusco that is not linked with the landfill operations.
