Emergency Traffic Measures and Lane Closure following partial Collapse of Wall Carrying A6 near Shap

Westmorland and Furness Council are advising drivers that emergency traffic light controls have been put in place along a section of the A6 South of Shap summit, following the partial collapse of a retaining wall.

The emergency measures were put in place this morning with safety barriers placed on the North Bound carriageway of the A6.

As a safety measure, one lane of the road is currently closed and traffic is being controlled by two-way traffic lights.

Investigations have started to determine how to prevent any further collapse and how to fix the issue.

The lane closure will remain in place while these works are carried out and as a result drivers are advised that there may be some delays to journey times through the traffic lights.

The council has thanked drivers for their patience and understanding while this emergency work is carried out.
