Donna Mills of CRY for EDEN said “CRY for EDEN has been set up to screen as many young people’s hearts between the ages of 14-35 within the Eden area.12 young people lose their lives every week in the UK, from undiagnosed and undetected genetic heart conditions.

"The screening programme consists of an ECG, an appointment with a cardiologist, and an echocardiogram if needed. This will be done at every screening event.

"My aim is to continue the fundraising and allow the campaign to continue for many more years to come. Raising awareness will help the charity within our community and undoubtedly save lives."

All of CRY’s public events are free to attend with each screening day costing £6,000 to hold where 100 young adults are screened.

If running isn’t your thing, you could still help support the event by being one of the marshals with 1 hour slots available over the 24 hour period.

The charity family day is being held in memory of Ryan Johnson, a local young man who lost his life around 18 months ago.

The event so far has had huge support from local people and businesses, offering sponsorship. But the charity still need some more runners/walkers for the 24 hour relay event.

The run will be from the rugby club down to frenchfield and a lap of the track, before coming back up the hill to the rugby club. There is no time limit, level of ability or age, just a willingness to support our charity and the memory of Ryan.

During the hours of darkness (10-5) the route will change to laps of the Rugby club, for safety purposes.

You can book a run using the link above, individual runners are £10 per person, or there’s an option of a group booking tor £100 for runners of 10+
