One of Penrith’s finest and most recognisable buildings, Mansion House in Penrith is up for sale as Westmorland and Furness Council looks to dispose of surplus assets and raise funds for the council.
Dating back to 1750 constructed by John Welpdale.the, property was initially purchased by Penrith Rural District Council in 1919 and later inherited by the now scrapped Eden District Council.
Walton Goodland, commercial property specialist based in Carlisle, is overseeing the sale and is offering the property for sale by informal tender with unconditional offers invited by 21st May 2026 AT 12 noon.
In addition to the property itself, there are 37 parking spaces on site at the front of the building.
Any person wishing to purchase the Property (the “Tenderer”) must complete and sign the Form of Tender and return it, together with the printed conditions, in an envelope which is clearly marked “Tender Return – Mansion House” and addressed to Walton Goodland, 3 Wavell Drive, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2ST by 12 noon on 21 May 2026 (the “Tender Closing Date”).
Westmorland and Furness councillors where only made aware of the property going on the marked today via an email sent on Monday afternoon by council officers.
