Council Opened 41 Planning Enforcement Cases in Penrith and Eden Over Last Four Months

Westmorland and Furness Council’s planning enforcement officers issued nine planning contravention notices and three enforcement notices between February and May this year in the Penrith and Eden area.

Figures will be presented to members of the Eden area local planning committee as part of an update on planning enforcement activity at a meeting on Wednesday (10th June). includes breach of condition notices and temporary stop notices, 41 cases were received and 59 cases were closed during the period between February and May.

In February the council received 16 new cases and the council closed 17 cases with no enforcement notices served.

In March, the council opened nine new cases, and closed 17 cases with two enforcement notices served. In April 13 new cases were opened and 23 cases closed with one enforcement notice served and in May the council opened three new cases, with two cases closed and no enforcement notices served.

Westmorland and Furness council’s Senior Enforcement Officer said: “A number of cases are being actively pursued with applications requested on some cases that are considered to be acceptable but need regularising, and enforcement notices being drafted on schemes that are not considered acceptable.”

“Officers are currently working on a mixture of older cases, closing them down where necessary, whilst balancing the investigating of the new alleged breaches”.

“The number of live cases, and the cases that have been closed will be reported to committee on a regular basis to keep members fully updated on the case numbers.”
