The US owners of Boots, which currently operates 2,200 branches across the UK, including its Penrith Pharmacy, have said the decision to close branches comes in response to a significant increase in online shopping and a growing trend of customers opting for own-brand labels to save money. Its understood there will be no redundancies as a result of the 300 stores closing as staff will be offered work at nearby stores.
