Car Smashes into Closed A66 Snow Gates

A car has crashed into closed snow gates on the A66 after traveling along the closed A66 between Scotch Corner and Penrith.

The driver of the car escaped injury but the vehicle has suffered significant damage after crashing into the closed steel gates across the A66 at Brough

National Highways closed the A66 this morning due to forecast heavy winds of upto 70mph in the area but has allowed traffic on the east side to use the road to access local businesses.

The road does however remain closed to all vehicles with the snow gates closed to prevent traffic passing over the tops.

The driver of the car claimed that glare from the sun prevented them from seeing the closed snow gates.
