Businesses learn about how they can support reservists, veterans and their families at an Armed Forces Covenant business event hosted at Whin Fell Forest, Centre Parcs Penrith.
The event aimed to inform businesses about the Armed Forces Covenant, its benefits, and the advantages of employing individuals from the Armed Forces Community (Reservists, Veterans, Spouses/Partners, Dependants, Cadet Adult Volunteers, and Cadets).
Guest speakers included Lt Col Taylor-Jayne Fox RA from HQ North – S01 Employer Engagement Reserves, Linda Jones – Armed Forces Lead Westmorland and Furness Council, and Teresa Mulholland – Director of Safeguarding Governance & EDI at Carlisle United Football Club, Kerryanne Wilde North West Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, Kev Warman from the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Glen Franklin from Centre Parcs.
Glen Franklin shared his experiences from joining the military at age 16 through various stages of his career, highlighting the training and transferrable skills gained during this time. After 27 years’ service and due to having to make tough family decisions on whether or not to stay in the military he decided to leave the Army and the previous 27 years of training, lived live experience, leadership skills and his personal drive has led him well into civilian life and his now current career and position.
Attendees engaged in discussions and planned future collaborations to support the Armed Forces Covenant. A Q&A session featured all guest speakers, including Col Alaistair Richmond BSc IEng FCABE CBuildE CIWFM AIFireE LCGI, Commandant of Cumbria ACF, and Cmdr Phil Burns MBE, DL RNR – Snr Staff Officer, North West Area Sea Cadets, discussing collaboration opportunities for uniformed cadets.
The event concluded with two Armed Forces Covenant signings: The Safe Woman Ltd and Sarah Schofield alongside Lt Col Taylor-Jayne Fox RA, and Pirelli represented by Alan Wilson alongside Col Alaistair Richmond (ACF).
