Avanti WestCoast have issued advice to passengers not to try and travel north of Preston this evening (Thursday 20th November), as lines are blocked due to failure of the electricity supply.
Avanti WestCoast have said passengers should not try and travel to all its destinations north of Preston include Lancaster, Oxenholme, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Glasgow, Haymarket, and Edinburgh.
If you have a ticket dated 20 November for travel north of Preston, you can now use it at no extra cost on 21 November, on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route.
To keep customers moving, ticket acceptance has been agreed for the following routes and train companies.
Between Glasgow Central / Glasgow Queen St and Edinburgh with
ScotRail
Between Birmingham New St & Edinburgh in Street with
CrossCountry trains
Between Newcastle and Carlisle / Preston, and York and Preston with
Northern
Between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh, and Manchester / Leeds with
TransPennine Express Trains
Alternatively, if you abandoned your journey as a result of the disruption, then you can claim a fee free refund from where you bought your ticket. If you continued with your journey but were delayed by 15 minutes or more, you can claim Delay Repay compensation from the train company you travelled with.
