A66 to Remain Closed Overnight as Fresh Weather Warning Issued for more Snow and Ice

National Highways have in the last hour confirmed that the A66 in will remain closed overnight in both directions between the A1M (J53) and the M6 (J40) as Snow continues to fall in the area.

Cumbria Police have also said they are receiving reports of multiple RTC on the M6 between Junction 38 and Junction 39 due to snow and ice.

Police have also advised drivers the A66 from Penrith towards Keswick is currently experiencing heavy snow with traffic currently at a standstill, road users are urged to avoid the area.

Drivers are being asked to consider if their journey is necessary and to slow down.

The met office has issued a new yellow weather warning for the county for more snow and ice through Monday morning until lunchtime leading to further travel disruption.
