National Highways will permanently close the lay-by from just west of Kemplay roundabout from Monday 12th May.
The lay-by on the westbound carriageway, between Kemplay roundabout and J40 will be permanently close to enable National Highways to begin work to install an access road and compound in preparation for the A66 upgrade that will see an underpass constructed at Kemplay Roundabout.
The permanent removal of the lay-by formed part of the A66 upgrade plans to enable new slip road access onto Kemplay Roundabout once the underpass is constructed.
Alternative parking can be found at lay-by’s on the A66 to the west of M6 junction 40 and to the east of Kemplay roundabout.
National Highways have said “HGV parking is also available just off the M6 junction 40 at AW Jenkinson Penrith Truckstop on Mardale Road.”
