National highways have updated the closure that had originally closed the A66 between North Yorkshire (A1M) and Cumbria (M6).

the road was closed originally to just high sided and vulnerable vehicles but a full closure was placed in the road at 8am on Saturday morning by National Highways with winds of upto 70mph forecast by the Met Office.

The snow gates are closed at Bowes & Brough to enforce the closure with no access available over Stainmoor.

Road users travelling across the Pennines are advised to plan ahead and consider alternate routes such as the A69.
